MercyOne Waterloo provides lactation support to all breastfeeding moms in the Cedar Valley area. we know that the decision to breastfeed is a personal one. With our team of experts, we will help you successfully breastfeed your baby or provide breast milk through our Milk Depot service.

A certified lactation consultant provides private assistance with common problems and any special needs a family may have. They are here to assist and help mothers reach her breastfeeding goals. Whether that is exclusively breastfeeding or pumping and giving her milk in bottle or just breastfeeding a few days. Our lactation consultants are available Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and available by phone at 319-272-6455.

MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center proudly accepts human milk donations as a Milk Depot in cooperation with the University of Iowa’s Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa.

Breastfeeding women have the opportunity to donate human milk to benefit babies across Iowa, including our own NICU babies. Human milk is the perfect food to help nourish premature and low weight babies.

Infants that are provided human milk have:

All the donated milk collected and stored by Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa is pasteurized. After pasteurization, it is tested for bacteria. Most immunologic and nutritional components of human milk remain intact after pasteurization.
