An officer at 11:35 p.m. on May 11 witnessed a car weaving while headed eastbound on Lorain Road.

The car’s speed was varying between 50 mph and 30 mph, according to a police report. The car several times crossed onto yellow lines and white lines. At the intersection of Porter Road, still traveling eastbound on Lorain Road, the car went almost completely into the left turn lane for southbound Porter traffic, according to the police report.

The officer stopped the suspect’s vehicle, and as the officer approached, the officer smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage, according to the police report. The officer also observed a partially empty bottle of Smirnoff vodka on the front passenger’s seat.

The woman told the officer she was putting on her seat belt and adjusting her cell phone, and those actions caused her to drive outside her lane, according to the report.

The officer asked the woman to submit to field sobriety tests, and the woman had difficulty maintaining her balance and performing the tests, according to the report.

The woman was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, having a blood alcohol level of more than 0.17, and failing to drive in marked lanes.

Walmart security called the North Olmsted Police Department at 8:10 p.m. on May 11 to report a suspected shoplifter had left the store parking lot in a white Honda Civic.

A police officer stopped the vehicle on I-480 near Grayton Road and took a woman matching the description of the suspect into custody and returned her to the store.

A Walmart loss prevention officer said he witnessed the woman enter the store empty-handed and then go to the infant department, where she selected a $119 stroller, a $200 breast pump, and a wipe warmer. The woman then returned the wipe warmer to customer service for a gift card. She then began to leave the store, but she was confronted in the outside vestibule by the loss prevention officer. The woman left her cart behind including all the merchandise and the gift card. The total value of the items was $598.98, according to the police report.

The suspect initially presented an officer with her daughter’s driver’s license. However, when the officer said the license clearly was not hers, she provided the officer with the correct information, according to the police report.

The suspect was charged with misdemeanor theft and criminal trespassing. She previously received a trespass warning from Walmart more than a decade ago and was advised not to enter their stores, according to the police report.

A North Olmsted police officer shortly after 3:07 p.m. on May 14 arrested a woman for petty theft after a store loss prevention officer said he witnessed her going through a self-checkout register and not paying for all the items that she bagged.

After reviewing a surveillance video, police arrested the suspect for petty theft involving nine items valued at $45.61.
